If your garden is north facing, it would not get ample sunlight. Plants produce food from water and soil in the presence of sunlight. This process is called photosynthesis and the degree of growth of pants greatly depends on their sun exposure. As a new gardener always try to grow plants in an area where the sun exposure is the most. A good sun exposure ensures healthy plant growth.
QUALITY OF SOIL.
Food quality as well as quantity majorly depends on the quality of soil. The quality of soil is determined by the microorganisms it contains and the level of water retention it possesses. If the soil of the garden is not good enough you can always take help by using fertilizers and wetting agents to improve the quality of the soil. Wetting agents are chemicals that eliminate dry soil by enhancing penetration and spreading of water in the soil. These help the quality of soil to improve and directly involve plant growth.
OPTIMUM WATERING AND THE RIGHT KIND OF FERTILIZERS.
Plants need varying amounts of water during their course of growth. Initially they need to be watered more as compared to later stages. The frequency of watering also varies depending on how big the plant is. Similarly, the soil is tested for its deficiencies so as to eliminate the chances of nutrient deficiency in plants that are to be grown in it. Fertilizers are added to the soil to compensate for the nutrients that are not present in it and addition should be done carefully because excess fertilizers can completely change the alkalinity of the soil.
START WITH REALISTIC GOALS.
Do not overwhelm yourself with unrealistic goals of a super kitchen garden. In the quest for that out of the world kitchen garden, you can overwhelm yourself and the garden and cause a total loss as far as the crop production is concerned. A slow and steady start will definitely help you in achieving success.
