What Happens During The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Depending on the type of operation, your doctor will employ local or general anesthesia. If the Rhinoplasty procedure is straightforward, local anesthesia will be administered to the patient’s nose. Patients can also get medicine through an IV line, which can cause drowsiness but keeps them awake. Children who get Marrero rhinoplasty frequently receive general anesthesia. Incisions will be made between or inside the nostrils by the surgeon. The skin will then be separated from the cartilage or bone, and the nose will be remodeled. If the new nose necessitates the removal of any redundant cartilage, your doctor can do it from the ear or deep inside the nose.

    An overview of rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a form of facial cosmetic surgery that modifies the contour of the nose. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon (OMS) can reduce or increase the size of a nose, alter the curve of its tip or bridge, shorten the nostril span, or adjust the angle between the nose and upper lip during rhinoplasty. Furthermore, rhinoplasty is often performed to enhance breathing, change the nose’s look, or both.

    Closed rhinoplasty or open rhinoplasty

Your doctor will perform this outpatient surgery under general anesthesia using either an open or closed (endonasal) technique. Incisions are created within the nose during a closed rhinoplasty. Incisions are made in the small tissue strip separating the nostrils during open rhinoplasty. If more incisions are required, they will be constructed similarly to the closed approach. Based on the demands of each patient, a doctor will select the appropriate surgical choice. The purpose is to remove or reduce extra bone structure, tissue, and cartilage. If necessary, more cartilage can be inserted for repair. The nose can be adjusted while the nasal skin is draped away. Moreover, sutures are put within the natural exterior creases or within the nose to initiate the recovery process.

    Recovering after a nose job

Most individuals wear a nasal splint for the first week following a nose operation. After the technique, you must keep your head elevated for at least 24 hours. After surgery, you might expect swelling and bruising around the eyes, which should go away by the third day. It can persist for up to two weeks. Expect your nose to enlarge somewhat, which you and your surgeon will most likely notice. This will go away during the following six months. Your nose’s complete form will be seen once it has healed completely. Also, you should avoid vigorous activities for 3 to 6 weeks following surgery.

Even though rhinoplasty procedure is a very safe and straightforward treatment, complete recovery might take some time. The nose’s tip is sensitive and can remain numb and swollen for months. The patient may recover entirely in a few weeks, but specific symptoms may stay for months, and it may take a year for the patient to be completely happy with the overall outcome of the operation.

While surgery can help improve, revitalize, or enhance existing characteristics, having rhinoplasty or other facial cosmetic treatments should not be taken lightly. Please discuss your objectives with your physician. Call ENT of New Orleans or book your consultation online to determine how you can benefit from the rhinoplasty procedure.
