5 Photography Types You Can Add to Your Skill Set

March 2, 2021 By khubaib Leave a Comment

Most photographers try to specialize in one type of photography, such as portraits or lifestyle photography, but few are masters of a good deal of photography.

While mastering all of them may be impossible or take years, it is preferable if you can master over two types of photography.

In this blog, we’ll discuss five different photography styles and how you can develop your new skill set by learning and practicing each day.

If you know “you know,” those skills are critical for your professional advancement.

Upskilling is the only way to progress.

Let’s look at the five different types of photography that you can learn.

Table of Contents

    • Portrait Photography
    • Fashion Shoot
    • Still- Life Photography
    • Architectural Shoot
  • Photographing Sports

Portrait Photography

This is the most basic type of photography. Portrait photography can be candid or posed, and it can include full body shots and close-up shots.

Please keep in mind that the eyes and face are the focal points in this type of photography. We should give the lighting and backdrop a lot of attention.

The lighting angles emphasize how a face appears in a photograph and the emotion you want to convey in the image.

As a photographer, it’s ideal for putting your client at ease so that their natural expressions shine through and the photo doesn’t look forced.

The goal of portrait photography is to capture a person’s mood and expressions. Some of the photography portraits include engagement photos, family portraits, even couple shoots.

Fashion Shoot

Fashion photography is ideal if you don’t want to be limited to shooting in studios. Because fashion photo shots are taken in various settings ranging from city streets to flower gardens, the possibilities are endless.

Businesses frequently use this type of photography in the clothing or accessory departments as they want to glamorize their products for customers. They commonly publish it in magazines and on social media sites.

It would be best if you had a collaborative effort in fashion shoot, and there should be communication between the businesses, the stylists, and the photographer.

Still- Life Photography

Still-life photography is exactly what its name implies: it is still!

It is used to advertise products in catalogues, magazines, and social media sites, and because visual content is so important to buyers, demand is growing by the day.

Lighting and a sense of composition are the most important factors for a still life photographer. Then and only then will you be able to take a perfect shot.

Architectural Shoot

If murals or the architecture of older structures, such as bridges, buildings, kings’ and queens’ rooms, have always piqued your interest, try looking at Architectural photographs.

Suppose you like how the marble looks when the sun shines on it and want to photograph it. You, my friend, would enjoy architecture photo shoot, and it could easily be a good fit for you.

You can highlight the most prominent and statically pleasing structure, an archway, the walls or anything of significance.

Photographing Sports

Most people, including coaches, athletes, and fans, have a strong emotional attachment to sports photography. You will need a hi pod for that.

Your goal should be to capture the player’s emotions during the game.

You can achieve this by shooting at a faster shutter speed with a higher ISO.

Long, powerful lenses are typically required for sports photo shoot, allowing you to zoom in and capture all the action.

Because this is a highly competitive genre, you must ensure that your angles are perfect, if not unique, so that your photo stands out among hundreds of others.

Conclusion

Now that you have a clear understanding of the various types of photography, you can branch out and decide for yourself which other image shoot is calling your name. Research it, watch videos, look at pictures to see how they are composed, and take some classes to develop skills yourself.
