Sean Robbins, a local real estate developer from Portland, Oregon loves Portland, Oregon so much that he decided to share his top 5 reasons here with us.
Below you’ll find his motivation why he thinks Portland is the best city in the USA, or even the entire world. Let’s get started!
#1 A Great Job Market
Portland has a very stable and unique job market. Most professionals come to the city thanks to the growth in sectors like technology (Intel, Tektronix), health (Oregon Health & Science University), and sports (Nike, Adidas, Under Armour).
Many professionals move to the city and start working there in IT, marketing, product design or customer service.
The city has been nicknamed Silicon Forest due to the abundance of high-tech companies in the metro area. Usually they refer to the industrial corridor situated between Beaverton and Hillsboro.
#2 Excellent Culinary Scene
Portland foodies are in luck! The culinary scene has developed into an otherworldly experience over the last decade. From creative concepts to sustainable and local foods, the restaurants of Portland also have a strong sense of community that celebrates their accomplishments with skilled chefs alike while also recognizing the importance of sustainable and local foods.
You can even attend some cooking classes here too if you are not afraid to get messy and gain new skills. There are events like Feast Portland that showcase the city’s vibrant culinary offerings in an incredible way. Whether you’re looking for a trendy bunch, a fancy dinner (for the perfect date night) or a place with fresh oysters, Portland has it all.
#3 Consistent Growth
Portland is a popular city for new residents, and it has been experiencing significant growth over the past few years. The population increased by about 1.7% each and every year. It adds about 40 thousand people to its city every year. Note that Portland’s growth rate has started to slow down a bit starting from 2018.
That said, its growth rate remains high when you compare it with other cities across Oregon. Especially young professionals and those wanting to work in the tech industry like to flock to the city.
Portland is Oregon’s largest city and the 26th largest in the country, with an estimated population of 647,805.
#4 Outdoor Recreation Options
Portland is also the perfect city for outdoorsy people. Definitely don’t let all that business talk and the sight of skyscrapers scare you. It’s a great city, but it has plenty of options for adventure and hiking.
It’s actually perfectly located for enjoying the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. You can take a stroll through Forest Park, stand under a sparkling waterfall, dip your toes in Willamette River or cycle through Gateway Green (check out the site Portland Cycling, if you love cycling).
There’s something for everyone. No matter if you love hiking, swimming, biking, river rafting, kayaking, golfing, camping, or skiing and snowboarding. Sean Robbins is a big cycling fan, but he also likes to mix it up. He was surprised as well how many recreational options there were around the city.
#5 Laid Back and Friendly People
This is probably the main reason why Sean Robbins loves Portland so much. The people are just so friendly and laid back. The city is just such a friendly and welcoming place, even if you just recently moved here and don’t know anybody yet.
This makes the city very unique. It offers a unique blend of big-city living with a relaxed, small-town atmosphere. You will just feel welcome and the residents are so hospitable.
A lot of exciting things happen, and the city could move at a faster pace, but that’s not the case. People actually take the time to pause for a conversation and want to get to know their neighbors.
Don’t be surprised if a stranger greets you with a smile!
