Did you know there’s a complex mechanism functioning behind each step you take? What’s Overpronation? When your foot flattens too far inward before you push off the surface and move forward, that condition is known as overpronation. Or, in common terms- “flatfoot.”

Several joints in your foot are responsible for a complex motion- pronation. It is the inward rolling movement of your foot as a step is taken. Studies reveal that for proper functioning, over 60% of the population pronates more than required.

    So, What’s Overpronation?

When your foot flattens too far inward before you push off the surface and move forward, that condition is known as overpronation. Or, in common terms- “flatfoot.”

With overpro nation, the foot alignment is compromised, and there’s a loss of efficiency with each step you take.

Adding firm and supportive insoles for overpronation mimics the contours of your arch and adds firm support to improve your alignment.

    How Can You Detect Overpronation?

Most people overlook overpronation as it becomes a natural part of their gait. Gait analysis by a foot and ankle specialist may help to detect overpro nation.

However, at home, you can do simple tests to identify overpronation.

    • Know your arch height- If you’re an overpronator, you’ll have flat feet and flexible arches.
    • Shoe test- examine the bottom or the insole of your shoe. If you notice extensive wear heel and ball of your foot extending to the big toe, you probably have a flatfoot.

When you visit a specialist, expect to undergo specific tests, including motion examination, stability, force dissipation, etc.

What Are The Negative Effects Of Overpronation?

Negative effects of overpro nation can range from unnoticeable to severe discomforts.

    Increased Friction During Foot Activities.

When you overpronate, your foot slides inside your shoes. This results in increased friction leading to blisters, calluses, peeled skin, etc. When you run or hike, your toes may hit your shoes, giving you black toenails.

    Plantar Fasciitis

With constant arch elongation, the connective tissue plantar fascia is subjected to extensive stress. This may lead to a painful, inflamed condition- plantar fasciitis. Although extremely rare plantar fasciitis can be excruciatingly painful.

    Inefficient Step

Due to misalignment, every step you take can be inefficient. You’ll need more energy to take every step when compared to an average normal person.

    Leg, Foot and Back Pain

The series of joints in your feet, legs, knees and muscles form a chain known as the kinetic chain. This chain is responsible for feet, ankle, hips and knee movement. Therefore with overpronation, you may experience lower back and/or leg pain.

    How Can You Treat Overpronation?

    Insoles For Overpronation

Insoles for overpronation provide firm support to your arch and prevents flattening of your foot. With these posture support insoles, you can correct the misalignment and walk efficiently.

However, purchase insoles for overpronation, posture brace, etc., from credible manufacturers like Back Pain Help.

With a large portfolio of happy customers in over 50+ countries worldwide, you can stay assured of the quality when you purchase from Back Pain Help.

    Custom Orthotics

Required only for severe cases with complicated issues. Consult with a doctor to understand if you need custom orthotics.

Overpronation is not a serious issue in the majority of cases and has an easy solution. Using insoles for overpronation, you’ll improve your alignment and the efficiency of each step you take.
