Looking for ways you can be more sustainable? Here are five ways you can collaborate to become more “green”. Going green is of utmost importance in today’s worldview, where with each passing second, the earth is deteriorating even further. Given the rate and amount at which businesses consume resources, it is crucial for us to double down on our efforts at sustainability. However, doing it all by yourself isn’t always possible, especially when you’re a small business or a start-up. That’s why in this article, we’re listing down 5 ways you can collaborate with others, whether it’s local businesses or NGOs, to make your business more sustainable, without dealing with the burden of doing everything by yourself.

    1. Purchasing Recycled Stationery – Stationery is an indelible part of any office environment. Whether it’s bills, memos, receipts, or packaging, in a business, you need paper pretty much everywhere. But given how most of the papers are thrown away and a large amount of data is stored in computers, opting for mass-produced office paper can be very wasteful and unsustainable. Research and data show that roughly 80000 to 160000 trees are cut down per day, and a significant section of that number goes towards the paper industry. The solution here is to purchase and use recycled paper, created by local businesses, which will not only save trees and paper waste but will support small businesses as well. You can customize the paper according to your needs, like you can get embossed stationery or you can get your logo printed on it.
    1. Employing Waste Management Services – Most of us don’t put much thought into how we dispose of our waste, and we tend to just collectively dump it all at once. What we don’t realize is how risky it can be for the earth. Improper waste disposal is one of the leading reasons behind land and water pollution, in terms of both contamination and plastic pollution. By employing waste management companies, who ensure that different kinds of waste are disposed of in the best possible manner, this problem can be avoided. Finding the perfect waste disposal company for you can be complicated, given how different businesses have different requirements.
    1. Collaborate with Eco-transport Companies – Not only are vehicles one of the main contributors to air and noise pollution, but they also lead to a depletion in natural fuel and gas. At this junction, it is important to make a push towards sustainable forms of transportation and travel. Companies should encourage employees to make a switch towards sustainable, green methods of travel, and one great way to do this is to collaborate with eco-transport businesses and bring in bicycles and electric cycles into the office, which the employees can avail of themselves. You can even create a carpool system, where employees can arrive at the office together so that every person doesn’t have to bring their own car.
    1. Do Energy Audits – For most companies and organizations, energy usage is often left unmonitored and this can lead to an immense waste of energy resources. A great way to take a step towards sustainability is to have an energy audit done. Basically, an energy audit is a professional inspection that is done to analyze the energy consumption of an organization or area, and consequently provide information that can help curb energy wastage and promote energy conservation, without negatively affecting output or productivity. This is helpful because it can pinpoint exactly where the problem lies and will allow you to take specific action instead of blindly taking steps. It will also help you save up on costs and expenditures while doing your part for the environment.
    1. Donate and Assist Fundraising – Last but not least, you can always do your part in making a change by donating to organizations concerned with environmental conservation and sustainability. There may be a situation where your business is unable to make any changes in its own set-up due to limitations in terms of resources, requirements, etc. In that case, you can still promote “green” activity by donating a fixed percentage of annual profits towards green causes and organizations. You can also support them by providing better connections and non-financial resources, as well as by setting up fundraisers for them. You can even establish a donation culture in your organization, and promote as well as incentivize donating towards green causes amongst staff and employees.
