Suddenly the convection oven no longer heats up properly or even causes a short circuit. Usually one of the heaters has burned out. What to do when the oven is off and how to fix the oven is here.
Bang! Suddenly it’s dark in the kitchen. The reason could be a defective electrical device – so first switch off all devices and activate the tripped FI switch again. If it goes off again when the cooker is turned on, one of the heaters could be faulty. The instructions show step by step how to repair the defective oven .
If the oven needs to be repaired it’s better to go with the professional companies of your area, you can find them online with your area name i.e oven repair in Ottawa, or if you decided to go with yourself, then always keep in mind that, a burned-out heating coil has usually created an electrically conductive connection to the protectively insulated casing, which is why the fuse blows. However, one of the heating coils could also be defective if the oven only heats up slowly or not at all.
Practical tip: First read the instructions for use to see whether a temperature fuse might have tripped. Since these fuses are usually not resettable, they must then be replaced. In our case, the fuse was undamaged.
Oven repair: work free of tension!
Before you open an electrical device, you must switch off the associated fuse(s) and check the circuit with a suitable measuring device. Do not rely on a phase tester , but use a Duspol or a multimeter. In the case of a cooker, check all three phases for the absence of voltage . If you are not sure, it is better to hire an electrician – otherwise there is a risk of death! So, it is always better to take help from professional companies around you like Ottawa appliance technicians or anyone of your choice.
Instructions: Repair convection oven
Depending on how the oven is switched on, you can further narrow down the problem by preselecting different heating variants: If the top and bottom heat are still OK, the circulating air heating will be affected – this is the most common case because this is often the case with circulating air ovens and is in operation for a particularly long time and is therefore exposed to the greatest aging. The convection heater is located on the inside rear wall of the oven behind a cover. The ring-shaped design of this heater around the fan ensures even heat distribution in the cooking chamber in convection mode. To be sure, you can measure the electrical resistance of the heating circuits of the oven with a multimeter, but you have to remove the oven from the kitchen counter to do this.
Which heater is defective?
You can use a multimeter to track down the defective heating circuit: set the resistance measurement (Ω). When measuring, pull off one connection wire of the heater. The normal reading is about 15 to 50 ohms.
Replace oven heater
If the heater burns out, there is no electrical connection between the two connection poles, the resistance is therefore infinite in the display of digital measuring devices with “OL” (open load – idle) or the output “0”. You can also determine whether the heating circuit is causing a short circuit: Measure the resistance of the heating coil to the protective earth conductor by holding the measuring tips to one of the heating connections and the mounting plate. A low resistance or continuity indicates an electrical connection – i.e. a short circuit.
In view of the low price of the spare part, this repair is particularly worthwhile
The required spare part is usually easy to obtain – search for the model name of your furnace in an Internet search engine. As a rule, identical heaters have been installed in a large number of device types – which is why the spare parts are usually available at less than 20 euros. Before placing your order, check whether the oven seal is still intact – the heat output can also be reduced in this way, and a new seal then also saves a significant amount of energy. If in doubt, order this spare part at the same time. The actual replacement of the heater is then no longer a problem.
