    Stretches to do after working out

    Once you are done with working out, especially if it was a high intensity workout, you don’t want to think about exercising even more. But stretching after workout is something that you should consider. 

    There are many benefits that stretching brings generally, no matter when you do it, but it is very effective after you are done exercising as well. 

    There are a number of stretches that you can incorporate in your post-workout cool down routine, so you don’t have to worry about running low on time. 

    If you don’t properly cool down, you can injure yourself as well, meriting then the intervention of an expert like a Physiotherapist in Karachi. 

    But if you are still not convinced about adding stretches after exercises, here some benefits of these stretches!

    Benefits of stretching after exercise

    Improved flexibility 

    Having improved flexibility might not be your biggest priority, but that’s probably because you don’t fully realize the benefits of flexibility. 

    It is not just about being able to touch your toes, but flexibility greatly improves your range of motion. It allows you to stretch your body without pain. It enables you to have a more increased motion with your joints. 

    So, everyday tasks like lifting things, stowing things, bending, moving can be done with relatively more ease. 

    Helps with back pain

    Anyone who has had backache can vouch for the great amount of discomfort is brings. One then has to not only contend with the pain, but it gravely affects movement and everyday activities as well. 

    Not only can inactivity and poor posture lead to back pain but straining your back too much can also lead to backaches. Exercise, especially core strength training, and stretching afterwards can contribute towards improve in back pain. 

    Improved posture 

    Having a good posture is vital. Your posture affects your appearance but more importantly, the health of your spine. Poor posture can also lead to backpain as well. 

    Stretches can help in fixing your posture, especially if you have not been exercising correctly. Better posture also means better spinal alignment and a stronger back.  

    Loosening up the muscle

    Your muscles can feel sore and stiff even after exercise. It is a bigger problem with people who are stressed, as stress cause muscles to develop knots and become stiff. 

    Stretching post-work out can aid in remedying this problem. It helps in relaxing the muscles so that there are not painful knots anymore. Similarly, it also can then help in dampening the impact of stress on the body. It can also positively impact your stress levels otherwise as well, improving your mental health. 

    Recovery

    After working out, your muscles are stiff and sore. Some might also have already gotten some injuries after a rigorous workout session. Stretching afterwards can improve the symptoms of these problems. 

    Essentially, stretching helps in improving blood flow to the muscles and the joints. Blood brings with itself oxygen and nutrients, both of which then help with recovery. 

    Help with injuries

    If you overwork your muscles or do exercise in an incorrect manner, you can injure your muscles. Stretching, on the other hand, can help in preventing injuries. 

    If you are already suffering from injuries, stretching can help in improving the symptoms. 

    Some stretches to try 

    Child’s pose 

    Borrowed from yoga, child’s pose is simple to do but that does not make it any less effective. It also feels heavenly after a high intensity workout session. 

    Cat/Cow stretch 

    Cat cow pose is also great for stretching the core and back muscles, not to mention those of the neck. 

    Lunges 

    Lunges on their own are good for working all the major muscles in your body. You can also do modified lunges with a spinal twist, so you work your back even further. 

    Word of caution 

    If you have an injury, or have specific health issues, you should first consult an expert at the Evercare Hospital if they are conducive to your health.
