There is always excitement when a new TV series is introduced, which is undoubtedly the case with HBO’s “The Last of Us”. It is attracting some well-known actors as well as big names behind the scenes. The announcement brought about the most recent excitement that Joel’s role has been given to Pedro Pascal.
The Events so far
Despite this being the beginning of the process, there are some great names already at the table. Composer Gustavo Santaolalla has come back, as has the creator Craig Mazin. Although they have agreed to return, there is no start date yet. It is, however, suspected that development had been underway for around a year.

What do We Know?
The first is the timescale. The series starts two decades after most of modern life has been destroyed. Joel, who is a well-adjusted survivor, has the task of springing someone from a quarantine zone. Ellie is the 14-year-old who is being rescued. It soon is apparent that this is not going to be an easy thing to do.
Turning a game into a TV show is not going to be the easiest of tasks. Fans could be concerned that there will be too many changes from the game they know and love. However, they can rest assured that there will not be a significant deviation from what they are used to. Ellie is going to remain LGBTQ. It will be a relief to many who have looked up to her and are glad to see a leading character belong to that community.
Timescale
We do know that this is going to take us on a journey. It will not be intense and compact but will cover a few years; it will be fleshed out to ensure enough detail. There is also a rumour that there will be action in the series that does not appear in the game, and Craig Mazin has been quoted as saying “it will make our jaws drop”.
Although it was planned so meticulously, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a great deal of disruption. To an extent, they were lucky as filming has not begun, but writing is now still in the early stages. The delay, while disappointing for many, can have an upside. Anyone who has not reached the end of the game will not have the ending ruined by watching the series.
The Cast and Crew
We do know that several roles have already been filled. Pedro Pascal, as mentioned, is playing Joel. Working alongside him again is Bella Ramsey, and she has been cast as Ella. That seems to be it so far, but it is a strong pairing and should attract other big names. While a few Naughty Dog employees are involved, there are others. The director Johan Renck is going to direct the initial episode. As the producers are Sony, it is clear there is funding for the series. Playstation Productions’ first foray joins their experience into TV.
