Switzerland-based global industry organization Bitcoin Association, which supports the enterprise adoption of the Bitcoin SV (BSV) blockchain, has announced that it has opened registration for the 4th BSV Hackathon with the biggest prize pool yet at 100,000 USD. Participants are to develop innovative applications built on the BSV blockchain, which are expected as final output to be judged for the competition. The BSV Hackathon is in partnership with leading enterprise blockchain research & development firm nChain and sponsored by digital currency & blockchain conglomerate CoinGeek. Participants can choose to enter the competition as an individual or as part of a team.
The BSV Hackathon was created in line with Bitcoin Association’s education program, the main objective of which is to provide proper education about the real value of the original Bitcoin with the ultimate goal of global enterprise adoption for the BSV blockchain. Participants will be granted access to a digital platform that allows for collaboration between team members and nChain experts as consultants. They are also encouraged to provide advice when needed to other competitors in the spirit of camaraderie. The competition hopes to promote innovation in the development of next-generation applications within the given theme in an environment that fosters teamwork, honesty and fairness.
“Developer education is a key component of the work we do at Bitcoin Association and one of the most exciting ways to incentivize developers to learn how to build applications on BSV is through competition such as our BSV Hackathons. With $100,000 up for grabs, the stakes are high, the standard of entry continues to get higher with each Hackathon, and the innovation displayed by competitors never fails to impress. The unbounded scaling, huge transaction throughput and extensive data capabilities of Bitcoin SV make it the ultimate blockchain for developers to work with—resulting in a diverse assortment of projects each Hackathon,” Bitcoin Association Founding President Jimmy Nguyen said.
In order to mimic and even surpass the success of the 3rd BSV Hackathon, which had 418 participants from 75 countries and yielded 42 final projects for judging due to its eight-week coding period, the competition this time will also use an extended coding period that will run from June 14 to July 26, 2021. Registration is free and anyone of legal age from all over the world (except for residents of Brazil, Quebec, Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea and Crimea) can join the BSV Hackathon and get a chance to take home the grand prize.
Once the coding period is over, all final projects will be submitted for judging by a panel of experts. The panel will then select three finalists who will be given the opportunity to present their applications live at the CoinGeek Conference expected to be held in October of this year. The winner will be awarded $50,000, while the second and third placers will be given $30,000 and $20,000, respectively. Prize money is payable in BSV.
“There is no better entry point for developers into the Bitcoin SV ecosystem than the Bitcoin SV Hackathons. With a huge cash prize at stake and expert support from nChain staff at the ready, BSV Hackathons are a great opportunity to test new ideas, try new techniques and learn how to leverage the blockchain in new and unique ways. The standard of entry has been higher and higher with every iteration of the competition, so I’m looking forward to seeing the entries from all around the world in what I’m sure will be our most competitive BSV Hackathon to date,” nChain CTO Steve Shadders said.
