What if there was an easy way to create a stunning backsplash in just a few minutes? You’ve probably looked into hiring professionals to do this work for you, but the cost of labor and materials can be prohibitively expensive, especially if you only want to use the backsplash once or twice before it starts to show wear and tear. Thankfully, there’s an incredibly easy solution that can save you both time and money: peel and stick vinyl wall tiles, also known as self-adhesive vinyl mosaic tile stickers or mosaic tile stickers.
Things you’ll need
Adhesive is the key to creating beautiful tile backsplashes. Make sure to use an adhesive that is compatible with the type of surface you are installing it on. Peel and stick vinyl wall tiles are one of the easiest and fastest ways to create a quick backsplash or add something new to your kitchen or bathroom wall. All you need is an attractive pattern, or design in order to make your space unique. We recommend using our Solid Pattern Vinyl Tile for any wall behind stove tops and countertops, as well as our Geometric Pattern Vinyl Tile for hallways, living spaces, and office spaces. Both have a frosted surface so you can paint any design desired over it without worrying about damaging the original colors of your choice.
Things you’ll need to know
You’ll need: Vinyl wall tiles, self-adhesive, Putty knife (or any scraping utensil), Scissors or blade for cutting vinyl wall tiles, Razor blade scraper or old credit card, Crafts Knife or box cutter.
1. Prepare your work area –
Vinyl walls are easy to damage if not handled carefully. Make sure the surface you’re working on is clean and smooth before proceeding. I would also recommend laying down some drop cloths or newspapers if possible to avoid damaging anything else with errant scrapings from the putty knife.
2. Peel away vinyl tile backing –
Peel back one corner of the backing paper from each individual vinyl tile and glue pad combo before fully removing it from the roll of vinyl tiles.
How to install tiles
Start by picking out the vinyl tiles you want to use for your project. The back of each tile has self-adhesive backing which is what makes them so easy to apply. Peel off the paper backing and place your tiles on the surface where you want them to go. Press firmly for about 30 seconds, then slowly remove the top layer of paper backing from the tiles.
Make sure that the front side of each tile is lined up together for best results. If any parts don’t stick well just peel those pieces off and replace them with other sections from different boxes.
Step by step guide – starting from installation
1. When you are ready to install your peel and stick wall tiles, it is important to prep the surface by thoroughly cleaning it first. A good rule of thumb is that the surface should be clean before starting installation for best results. (Know: Cleaning can be done in advance of installation.)
2. Pressing firmly, apply the first tiles from bottom up to get them started
3. Fill in any gaps and set any tiles that need to meet at a corner into place
4. Lay new tiles as close as possible next to existing ones and press firmly
5. Continue in this way until you have completed your desired length or width
