Two extortion software gangs backed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with one threatening to revenge against any country that acted against Moscow.
The conti Gang, according to Brett Callow, a threat analyst at Emsisoft in Canada, made a retaliation statement on its data disclosure website, which is designed to display evidence of hackers and data theft.
“We hope to send a message that if there are cyber attacks and acts against Russia, we will help the Russian government,” said the cooming project Gang.
Conti blackmail malware was used in more than 400 attacks on US and international organizations as of last fall, according to a background document released by the US Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
