    Types of Depressions

These are the most common types of depressions:

    1. Major Depression

It is one of the most common depression types. Now, according to the reports, approximately more than 16.2 million adults in the US at least have one major depressive episode. However, it is also known as unipolar depression, classic depression, or vital depressive disorder. The victim of this disease suffers its symptoms in their everyday life.

    2. Persistent Depression

The persistent depression or the persistent depressive disorder may not seem intensive as the major depression. But, trust me, it affects daily life and relationships badly. At the same time, it also makes everyday tasks difficult as well. Besides, it lasts more than two years. So, taking the necessary steps is mandatory.

    3. Manic Depression

This depression is also known as bipolar disorder. In this depression, a person may experience mania or hypomania. However, on that mania, people will feel very happy along with alternating depression episodes. To diagnose this illness, you need to experience episodes of mania that will last for a week.

    4. Depressive Psychosis

It is actually a part of major depression but occurs with some people. In this case, people lose touch with reality. At the same time, a victim of this state see dilutions and hallucinations; this is considered as psychosis. Now, this state is called important depressive disorder with psychotic features. However, some refer to it as psychotic depression or depressive psychosis.

    5. Perinatal Depression

This type of depression only can be seen in women. That is because it only occurs during pregnancy or within four weeks of childbirth. Now, this depression is clinically known as a major depressive disorder with peripartum onset. However, the term postpartum depression is only implemented after giving birth.

    6. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder or PMDD

It is a simple variation of Premenstrual syndrome. However, according to experts, PMS symptoms are physical and mental, but PMDD symptoms are mostly psychological. At the same time, these symptoms are quite simple, unlike PMS.

    7. Seasonal Depression

This is entirely seasonal depression. I mean, the symptoms appear in certain seasons. Now, seasonal depression is known as a SAD also. In the meantime, its clinical recognition would be a major depressive disorder with a seasonal pattern. In most cases, the symptoms of this depression appear during the winter and fall.

    8. Situational Depression

This type of depression clinically called an adjustment disorder with depressed mood. However, it can seem like a major depressive disorder in many cases. In this illness, people find it hard to adjust to certain events in their life. This depression can be triggered by the death of loved ones, serious illness, divorce, and other major events that increase mental stress.

    9. Atypical Depression

It is a type of depression that can be healed temporarily with positive events in life. But, don’t think that it is less serious than other types of depressions. At the same time, it is not rare too. The doctor may refer to this depression as a major depressive disorder with atypical features. It is quite a tricky illness that is because a person may not seem in depression in this case. Besides, it can happen during major depressive episodes.
