Seoul — North Korea demanded return of cargo ship seized by the US on May9, 2019. The official North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), carried a statement by an unnamed foreign ministry spokesman who blamed the United States of betraying the soul of a summit agreement last June between President Donald Trump and North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un.
Trump and Kim Jong Un agreed into some statement calling for bilateral ties and a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. But the second meeting between the leaders collapsed due to mismatched requirements in disarmament and sanctions relief.
“US should carefully think about what type of impacts their daylight robbery could bring into the political situation and should send back our ship without hesitation” the KCNA statement said.
The 581-foot (177-meter) boat, called the Wise Honest, had been detained by Indonesia in April 2018 while hauling a massive amount of coal. It was brought on Saturday into American Samoa, where it will undergo inspections.
U.N. banned North Korea for exporting coal. Experts believe coal and other mineral exports helping the North’s firearms industry.
