Qatar, a small Gulf state with numerous attractions to offer, is known for its great quality of life, efficient healthcare system, and welcoming expat population. Doha’s modern buildings and glitzy shopping centres aren’t the only attractions that bring Western professionals to the city.  As reported by the 2018 Expat Insider Survey, Qatar is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for expats, particularly those with children.

Its widespread acclaim stems from the progressive policies of its government and the high standard of living enjoyed by its citizens. Moving to Qatar from a more temperate region entails adjusting to the subtropical climate, which may be somewhat humid.

Is a move to Qatar in your future? Do you have questions about buying property in Qatar for expats? Or are simply looking for apartmenmts for rent in The Pearl, Qatar? This article will help you understand all of that. Find out what it’s like to live in Qatar by reading the following list of essentials you must know.

    Table of Contents

    • Qatar’s accommodations are mostly expat-friendly
    • No job, no entry: The country only allows foreign workers with secured employment
    • Expats should undergo mandatory medical checkups in the initial weeks
    • Qatar is still a wonderful spot to save money if you’re economical
    • Safety is a top priority in Qatar, making it an ideal place to call home
    • Summing Up

    Qatar’s accommodations are mostly expat-friendly

Luxurious villas sit alongside contemporary flats and even massive apartment complexes as options for lodging. Qatari real estate values fell by a shocking 40 percent during the global financial crisis of 2008.  Although rent decreased, the market has been steadily improving since.  With the exception of a brief slowdown in 2010, both the population and the cost of living have been steadily on the rise.

Some businesses find it more cost-effective to lease a full complex for their staff members, who may then share apartments. Some high-end apartment communities provide everything from on-site gyms and swimming pools to gourmet coffee shops and grocery stores. Most villas include at least four bedrooms and a yard.

No job, no entry: The country only allows foreign workers with secured employment

The significant number of foreign workers in Qatar has resulted in a gradual shift towards using English for official purposes. Weekends often fall on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday through Thursday constituting the work week. Expats in upper-level employment often work weekends and overtime.

Women travelling to Qatar with their families are permitted to work there without obtaining a separate work visa; nevertheless, they must get a labour card, which will be applied by their employer. There are usually designated prayer areas for men and women in the workplace in the Middle East.

Expats should undergo mandatory medical checkups in the initial weeks

Medical facilities in Qatar are among the world’s best, and the quality of treatment provided there is exceptional. Clinics and hospitals, both public and private, are state-of-the-art and conveniently located across the nation.  As waiting times at hospitals rise, more individuals are turning to private, sometimes more costly, medical facilities.

While some employers do provide their workers with medical insurance, this is far from the norm. Some expats are required to seek medical clearance before visiting Qatar, but the vast majority are able to do so after their arrival.

Qatar is still a wonderful spot to save money if you’re economical

Due to its high GDP and tiny population, Qatar is able to fund its social insurance programmes without requiring residents to make payments. Expats migrating to Qatar will need to depend on private insurance or company-provided healthcare benefits since they will not be eligible for these services.

Living expenses in Qatar may, without question, be rather costly. However, working and living in Qatar has a wealth of chances to both increase one’s income and decrease one’s expenses. While the cost of living has increased over time, most expats are still able to make ends meet because of the generous salaries they get.

Safety is a top priority in Qatar, making it an ideal place to call home

Due to the very low crime rate in Qatar, residents and visitors alike do not have to worry about their safety. Doha, the capital of Qatar, has been classified as the second safest metropolis in the world by Numbeo’s Index of Crime by City 2022. The majority of thefts in Qatar are minor and do not include weapons. All residents of Qatar, including natives and foreigners, may rest certain that the country’s police force is among the most professional and effective in the world.

    Summing Up

There will always be hiccups on the road to a new home, no matter how well you plan beforehand. The city’s variety of neighbourhoods means that there’s something for everyone, but it’s important to keep in mind that housing is regulated, so only a small fraction of new construction is open to foreign buyers. Expecting the shift to go off without a hitch is unrealistic; but, having a strategy and the confidence to tackle any obstacle head-on is sure to assist you in the journey.
