Liverpool Beat Barcelona in Champions League Semi Final. The players of Liverpool had their hands on their heads. James Milner was in tears. Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp stood in the front of The Kop in full voice.
The Liverpool players confronted a 3-0 deficit in the first leg of their Champions League semifinals against Barcelona. They faced the Lionel Messi, probably in the best form of his life. They also missed their two team forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
It was the third time in this competition’s history a team recovered from three goals down after the first leg of a semifinal and reached in final after Panathinaikos at 1970-71 and Barcelona 1985-86.
Klopp was full of praise for the lucent thinking of Alexander-Arnold, the player of the Liverpool team, and stated he had not even seen the corner.
How to explain a win that sent Liverpool into final, 4-3 on aggregate?
Klopp said that we all know this club is a composite of air, emotion, desire and footballing quality. “For me, this club has a big heart and tonight that the heart was pounding like mad. You may feel it all over the world.”
Euphoria had engulfed Anfield when Liverpool, smothering Barcelona with its intensity and leading 3-0, was granted a corner in the 79th minute. Trent Alexander-Arnold set the ball down at the quadrant and turned out like he had been going to leave the kick to a teammate.
Within a minute, he spun around again and whipped in a low cross that Barcelona’s players were not ready. But Divock Origi was prepared and he hit the ball from eight meters (yards) to the upper corner for his second goal of the game.
