Easy Recipe: How to make French Toast without Milk?
This is a recipe for making French toast without milk. The following ingredients and tools are needed. This recipe is for two tablespoons of frosting, spread on each side of the bread.
- 2 slices of bread (preferably white or wheat)
- 2 tbsp. cream cheese frosting (any flavor; any brand)
- 1/4 cup water (or skim milk substitute)
- Tools: Pan/frying pan, knife, fork
- Remove bread from packaging. Note that for this recipe to be successful, the bread slices must be square. If they are rectangular, then cut them into 4 equal rectangles (each rectangle has two opposite sides of the same length).
- Spread one tablespoon of butter on each slice of bread. Note that it is best to use unsalted butter to avoid added salt, so if preferred/needed, add salt to taste after the French toast is done.
- With fork in hand, loosen up the frosting by pushing around inside jar or container.
- Pour 1/4 cup water into a bowl or plate—Dip bread in water, leaving it there for about five seconds.
- Lift the bread from the bowl/plate and let excess liquid drip off.
- Place dipped-in-water-then-dried piece of bread on pan/frying pan with its drier side down. The same goes for the second piece of bread.
- Turn pan on (medium-high if preferred).
- Heat both sides of French toast until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Once done, carefully remove from heat and place on a plate.
- Add the frosting in any form into a ziplock bag (or piping bag) and cut off the corner of the bag or hole in the tip if using a piping bag.
- Pipe the frosting onto the top of French toast.
- Note 1: Make sure to evenly distribute the frosting because one side will have more frosting than the other. Depending on which side was drier when heating. The larger end of the piping bag should create thinner lines for a more attractive look/design.
- Slice French toast in half lengthwise and serve with desired sides.
Instructions for French Toast
- Do not stir the cream cheese; it may be best to use a knife or spoon to spread the frosting evenly and thinly on bread, but do not knead (which is like stirring) as this will result in clumps cream cheese.
- Ensure that the entire surface of the bread is evenly heated by monitoring with a fork or knife to check progress.
- The drier the bread is when put onto the pan, the faster the heating process will be.
- It is best to use cream cheese frosting because its texture allows for easier distribution due to its thickness. If preferred, though, any other flavor/brand of frosting that spreads easily can be used instead.
- If one does not have access to a piping bag or ziplock bag. Spread the icing onto French toast with a knife or spoon after removing it from the pan.
- Use a fork or knife to check the progress of piped icing before step 12 is done. Not burn yourself because melted cream cheese residue is still hot inside the piping bag/ziplock tip.
- It is best to eat French toast on making it because on the second day. The bread will be soft.
- If desired on any other day, the best way to reheat French toast is by placing both pieces of sliced French toast in the frying pan with medium-high heat for about 2 minutes per side.
- For variety, one can also add fruit jam or jelly inside piping bag/ziploc bag/piping tip with frosting and pipe into French Toast before cutting into halves.
How to make French Toast Without Milk and Eggs?
So here’s how to make it without the milk and eggs
- 1 egg (I used a medium-sized one)
- pinch of salt
- pinch of sugar
- the cup of breadcrumbs/panko flakes, or as much as you’d need to coat your slice(s) of bread.
Mix the egg with a little bit of water until fully blended. Then season this mixture with a pinch each of salt and sugar. Coat both sides of your slice(s) of bread in this mixture until they are completely covered on all sides. Finally, coat both sides again in some panko flakes/bread crumbs. When this is done, heat some oil (I used olive oil) in a frying pan or skillet and fry the bread on both sides until golden brown. Depending on your cooking surface, you may need to work in batches, but this should finish quickly. Serve with something sweet.
How to make French Toast Without Milk and Cinnamon?
Ingredients for French Toast
- 2 slices of bread (any will do)
- Pancake syrup or honey to taste
- Use a fork to puncture the bread all over. Does this gently make holes in the bread, but if you want to go about halfway through each slice. Make sure the bread can absorb the egg mixture on both sides. You don’t want it soggy, just moistened. If desired, you may also soak your bread in milk instead of using egg mixture—the egg-milk mix is used only when cooking French toast without milk. This is done by dipping the two slices of bread into some milk and letting them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients to create an egg mixture.
- Heat skillet on medium heat until water droplets dance around when dropped onto the pan. When ready, coat the pan with butter and pour in the egg mixture.
- Once the bottom of French toast slices are soaked and golden brown, lightly flip to cook the other side—about one minute per side (depending on how dark you like it).
- Eat immediately or serve with warm syrup or honey. Tastes great with bacon. For a treat, add your favorite fruit.
Note: You may use any milk when making French toast without eggs. The kind of milk you choose will depend on whether or when it is available to access at your house. Mix in the milk with your hand. Don’t pour it straight from the glass/carton into the bowl. You do not want leftover chunks that won’t mix in well with the rest of the mixture. If desired, add cinnamon and sugar.
