Until 2020, for most people, a home office was just a desk and a chair where someone took the computer when they had a bit of work to do. Now, it is the end of the commute as people have been working from home for up to a year. The idea of not keeping it too comfortable so you would be in and out has gone, and you must spend most of the day there. All it takes is a few items that make working easier and some that make you comfortable. You can even bring items from other parts of the house rather than buy new ones.

An Extension of the Home
If you have plants and ornaments around your home, then you can have them in the office. No one else can see or complain, making you want to sit down and start work. Cushions on your chair are fine, and if you would rather have a blanket on your knee than turn the heating up, no one will know.
Decoration
As you may be working there for a while, it will be best to decorate it how you want it. It does not have to be stark white, but you could have one wall with a deep colour on it. Blinds may be more suitable for an office, so the expense will be worth it if you find one you like. Instead of small pictures on your desk, you could hang the family’s pictures on the wall. Lighting is going to be vital, especially when working through the winter months. A good desk lamp will keep you going once natural daylight starts to fade.
Accessories
Although the paperless office is a lovely thought, it is still well into most people’s future. If you buy an attractive shelf and some brightly coloured binders, you will have an attractive arrangement and all your paperwork where you need it. A filing cabinet may not be necessary, but it will be handy to have a small cabinet where you can keep bits and pieces you need. A stapler, bulldog clips, paper clips, and general stationery should be the minimum. If you use a mouse and it is getting on a bit, an upgrade will be a must as you don’t want the roller to fail.
Computer chairs are not cheap, but you will be sitting in yours for a lot of hours. Asking the boss for a donation may allow you to get a good quality one. If they turn you down, then go for the best you can afford. Wi-Fi is going to be one of the areas you must succeed in securing. Days can be long when you are sitting at a blank screen or waiting for documents to load. If you can get all of this sorted out, you will never want to return to the office.
