NAKHON RATCHASIMA — A dog in Thailand has saved a newborn after it was buried alive by its teenager mother.
The baby boy is said to have been abandoned by his mother, 15, to conceal her pregnancy from her parents.
The Thai breed dog named Ping Pong barked and digging in a field in Ban Nong Kham village. The dog owner says he noticed a baby’s leg sticking out of the ground.
Locals rushed the baby to the hospital where doctors announced he was healthy and cleaned him up.
Ping Pong, 6, has only three working legs. Ping Pong’s owner, Usa Nisaikha, says his dog lost one of its legs after being hit by a car.
He advised Khaosod Newspaper: “I kept him because he’s so faithful and obedient, and always helps me out when I go to the fields to tend to my cattle. He’s loved by the whole village.”
The newborn’s mother was charged with child abandonment and attempted murder after she confessed to burying the baby.
Panuwat Puttakam, an officer in Chum Phuang police station, told the Bangkok Post she was currently in the care of her parents and a psychologist.
He said that she regrets her actions.
The woman’s parents have decided to raise the baby.
