Madrid — Rafael Nadal Defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas in semi final of Madrid Open Tennis tournament. Rafael Nadal’s bid for sixth Madrid Open is over after Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated him in the semi-final.
Greek 20-year-old Tsitsipas came in a thrilling encounter through 6-4 2-6 6-3.
The defeat on the Madrid clay for Nadal comes only two weeks before his appearance in French Open title in Paris for the twelveth French Open title.
After losing to Thiem in Barcelona Open and Fabio Fognini in the Monte Carlo Masters, Nadal’s defeat was his third straight semi-final exit on clay.
Tsitsipas explained: “It signifies the world, it is wonderful to have the ability to play this way, it is an incredible feeling.”
“I needed to show psychic control, and being decisive in these significant minutes was key, I needed to take all chances because Rafael is a fighter, so he does not offer you lots of points” he said.
He further said that he needs to to be emotionally ready for Djokovic.
